Blackout by KatieHofgard Blackout by KatieHofgard
Finished commission for Blackout Wolf! I made a few obvious tweaks on the swords here for the sake of getting the composition I liked, but it turned out fairly believable! Thanks to me awesome boyfriend for being my model again, and lending his martial arts expertise.

As always, uploaded work-in-progress walk through in my tumblr - eskiworks.tumblr.com/post/5950…

Beautiful work. The pose, anatomy and attention to detail (fur, shading, etc.) is outstanding!

Shadow-wolf I just wanted to say that I am sorry. If i offended you by saying you needed a push then really i am to blame for that. I love your work and have been a fan of your work for over five years now. I really was not giving your art any critique of any kind. Maby its the way I said things or just general ignorance from my end, but i do love your art. Now hopefully i can be helpful with this, your skills as an artist are above many i have seen, and i am not taking anything away from the work you do now, i love it! but (now this is just what i feel) I feel like these recent art pieces don't have the flair that some of your art had like in earlier years. for instance. Compare this piece to say, This body of mine or Apollo's Kiss. those where art pieces that i would stair for hours at and wounder "how did she come up with that?" or "what did she do to make this tone and contrast" Please don't take offence, I truly adore your art and some of the more recent pieces like Light Hunter and Kiety Cat are some of my favorites. I just don't want you to lose that spark that ive always loved about your work. In all honesty, I really just was concerned, that's all. So many of my favorite artists lost there spark, I just don't want that for you. Sorry for all the fuss and trouble. Sincere apologies. Marco

What I think you should understand is that artists' work evolves over time, especially if they're working to improve.  Sure, not everyone is going to like the changes, but there is no lost spark.  These are just a changes that I think you seem not to prefer.  And as I said, that's ok!  You're not obligated to enjoy the direction my art takes.  But I'm not going to reverse all my progress and evolution as an artist to go back to the way I did things before.  For me, these have been good changes that I am happy with, and improvements in areas I struggled with.  I am just as passionate and hard working as I have always been, perhaps more.  Thanks for your reply.

Amazing facial expression!! Love how it looks as if he's roaring and in the middle of his battle cry at the same time. I wish I could have gone to art college like you did. A really good one.

Well thank you!  You don't need to go to art college to become a better artist though, TONS of really amazing artists don't!  =D

I know, but I just feel like if I get more experience through a college, I could learn faster. Rather than trying to do it myself. And trust me, I've been trying for years.

Wow didn't expect that from you, honestly quite surprised. my previous message had no ill intention at all, and i am re-payed with that. Thanks a bunch for the cool art but i think that i am done watching you. Cheers

Nor did my message have any ill intention.  It's ok if you had no ill intention, and it's ok if you don't like my work any longer.  But you also have to understand that "hey, I don't like your art very much anymore," isn't constructive.  If your intention was to offer a critique, then that's not particularly the best way to go about it.  A constructive critique highlights exactly what you think is wrong with a specific image, and offers solutions to the problem.  You were neither specific in telling me what you didn't like, nor did you offer solutions.

Artists don't need their audience to give them "pushes" to be better.  We're plenty motivated on our own.  Constructive critique as I mentioned?  Of course!  But ambiguous messages implying an artist is not living up to your expectations aren't helpful.  Unwatch if you wish, but consider your words the next time you decide to give another artist a "push" without constructive commentary behind it.

Wow, this is awesome! One of the reasons I love your art is the beautifully clean linework, and this piece is no exception! Great work! The pose, the facial expression, just great! Wanna know something silly? When I first saw this piece in my inbox, I thought those two swords were two blue lightsabers :P I had to do a double-take. Granted, a samuri-wolf is just as cool as a Jedi-wolf, I think.
Again, awesome work!

Dat hamon line <3

Seriously love the color palette of the character design and the swords together, it's almost like an extension of themselves. Lovely work indeed, I certainly wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of his rage XD

And lol at the comment above you responded to so politely. (aka "why can't you draw my character and not everyone elses")

Hay Shadow-Wolf, amazing artwork as per the usual. just another that i have to fav, but i have noticed something in your recent artwork... now im not one to judge but has your artwork of late not been lacking in the usual creativity and vibrant beauty to which i have grown accustomed to? don't get me wrong, i am an amazing fan of your work and i think this pic is one of many that i love, but i just feel like something is missing? I hope in some way my little message has given you the push you need to wow my imagination and thoughts again. just a bit of love and concern from a big fan :D keep up the great work!!!

You know, I really don't know what to say here.  This is not a particularly useful comment like a constructive critique would be, so I can't really respond to it that way.  It sounds like you simply don't like the direction my art is headed, an opinion which you are entitled to of course.  But is there a constructive purpose in telling me this?  I can't really see one.

Sorry that my work has been disappointing you.  I'm working just as hard, nothing is wrong or missing.  I don't need a "push" of any sort I'm doing everything I always have been, and more.
